The Bwog
Ratfinks

Remember Richard Bulliet? Remember the whole Ahmadinejad fiasco? Well history professor Bulliet was the one who extended the invite. Though for most people the drama has died down, some grudges remain. The site Richard W. Bulliet -- Ratfink pretty much says it all. It's even listed on Wikipedia as the "Unauthorized Richard W. Bulliet Homepage," emphasis on the unauthorized.

Bulliet better be careful, someone actually spent money on a domain name to slander him. That means business.

is a tremendous professor. most professors either really care about their student and are engaging or care only about themselves and want to constantly advance their own reputation. bulliet is a master at doing both.

seriously though bulliet is great and that website is jsut a bunch of haters. fuck 'em.

I like how the idiot who made that website has moderated comments on its blog... its befitting since I guess they're not a big fan of free speech but, seriously, the website makes me vomit...... As someone who has taken one of Bulliet's classes, the man is a genius---albeit an eccentric; but what true genius isn't?

I don't get it. Is Bulliet high-profile enough to warrant his own hate website? I didn't know he was very well-known outside columbia.

Fuck skulls and bones, Columbia has The High Order of the Ratfinks.

he wants to be that high profile. he should be that high profile. I mean, he proved that camels changed the world and spoke at a UN conference once. once, he left class early to be on charlie rose. oh, and he mediated a cartographic dispute over whether that oil-rich gulf should be named "persian" or "arabian". he's still jealous of jared diamond, though. here's hoping this puts him over the edge and finally gets him the notoriety he deserves.

I think Bulliet cannot even be compared to Jared Diamond. One man is involved in the sciences, and the other, politics.

As for notoriety, Bulliet is well-known in his circle of academics.

Yup. I'm one of the many Columbia J-School alumni (and other Columbia alumni) who believe that free speech has its limits. John Coatsworth says he'd invite Hitler to speak on campus if he could. (He settled for A-Jad.) Well, that 'free speech' isn't free. Bollinger, Coatsworth and Bulliet are dupes and history will judge them as such. As for those who applaud Bollinger and Bulliet -- well Neville Chamberlain had his friends too.

Rotbart, are you a real journalist? All you seem to do is sponsor anonymous character-demolishing websites. Oops, guess they're not anonymous anymore.

For a Columbia J-School grad, I'm surprised you have such a blatant hatred for free speech.

That speaks so poorly on the university.

I bet he's just bitter because he was bullied as a kid for his last name. Notice the similarity to "ratfink". I doubt it's a coincidence - closer to a Freudian slip.

free speech does have limits--pretty narrowly defined ones. These limits do not include being a bigoted idiot a la Ahm. These limits CERTAINLY do not include inviting bigoted idiots to a campus basically in order to prove their bigoted idiocy, a la Bulliet. Seriously, the J-School profs must have been asleep around 1980 to hand this guy a diploma. Can we rescind that *#(@ ?

Gee. What eloquent responses to my post! You've really hurt my feelings. Please, please don't make fun of my name. It hurts so badly. Especially the references to Swan Lake.

If I knew you all would tease me, I would have never written about an issue as comparitively trivial as those academics who allow a man who stones women, hangs gays, kills American soldiers and want to nuke Israel to speak on campus.

Are you kidding me? We all know that I'm a nobody. No debate there. The debate is over Bollinger, Bulliet and Coatsworth who have influence, respect and a global platform.

Sticks and stones don't break my bones because I don't live in Iran. Sadly, they do injure and kill too many Iranians at the hands of A-Jad.
