Will the artist responsible for creating the pint-sized Jack McGourty please identify themselves as such in an email to bwgossip@columbia.edu? Be honest, and don't forget to include a Mii designed to resemble your likeness.
Congratulations, and a special mention to whoever submitted Sunil Gulati.
We received many submissions in our first annual Mii-creation contest. The following represent the top of the class. Show your support by announcing your favorite in the comments. Winner gets to make a Mii of themselves for a Bwog post with the of title "CHAMPION."
Representing SEAS: Associate Dean/reported life-ruiner Jack McGourty
It's another lazy Friday, and Bwog's mind inevitably turns to the Wii, and a weekend of whiplash and wrist injuries. In that vein, we're opening up a contest for the best Faculty Miis. Create one here, post the link in the comments, and we'll award an exciting prize to the winner. And we'll post the best several, so they can be downloaded onto your Wii, if you're lucky enough to have one. (Bwog is not.)
Bwog tried its hand at creating a Bollinger. One-up us, we dare you.
UPDATE: The quality of some of your artistry, gentle readers, has really amazed us. Therefore, Bwog does declare an impromptu Mii contest. You have until 12 PM tomorrow to create a Columbia-affiliated (however vaguely) Mii. Link to your submission in the comments of this post. We'll pick the best tomorrow afternoon and feature them in a separate post.
Bwog is proud to announce the winner of our Valentine's Day candy heart contest, in which we asked you to provide the best slogan to emblazon on one such heart. We've tallied all the votes, and we're proud to announce the winning entry:
YOU'LL DO
Bwog congratulates Rob Trump for his ingenious wit and ability to garner 21% of 573 votes, and humbly asks that he contact us to claim his special Valentine's treat.
Like it or not (and you probably don't), the unstoppable frustrated mess that is Valentine's Day is fast approaching. And with it, bags of pink and pretty candy have already hit stores. The most iconic mid-February sweet is perhaps the Candy Heart, the mostly gross and chalky tiny hearts with zeitgeist-y sayings like "Page Me" and "You + Me 4ever" on them.
Bwog's interested in what phrase (twenty characters or less) you would choose to put on a Candy Heart. Email bwog@columbia.edu with as many suggestions as you want by February 13th at 11:59 PM. We'll post the best and then vote. The winner will receive a Valentine's Day treat and will be successful in all their romantic endeavors this year.
Vote for Bwog as U.S. News and World Report's Best College Alternative Media Outlet. Right now we're a few points behind the Michigan blog. But the Michigan blog is making campaign promises it can't fulfill. The blog from Michigan said, "If I win, I'll buy everyone a puppy. That's a promise." Bwog's not about to make promises it can't keep; you deserve better, Columbia. And so does America. Bwog's having a contest again
We hope you'll compete and contend
Contrive of a poem of this type
And receive all the hype
You'll be the talk of West End.
This is a horrible, horrible limerick. Think you can do better (re: worse)? Email bwog@columbia.edu by Sunday at midnight, (that's the minute after 11:59 on Sunday). Special prizes TBA!
Make sure to send Bwog pictures of yourself in all your costumed glory before you go out trick-or-treating tomorrow night. The winner will receive an outgoing voicemail message recorded on their phone by Andrew Flynn! And eternal fame and accolades!
By now, reader, you have probably become accustomed to Bwog hosting contests, what with the photography and photoshop contests, as well as the current "become an editor" contest. Well, the next contest is our Halloween Contest, where you must dress up in costume, photograph yourself, and send it to us before midnight of All Hallow's Eve, in order to win a prize: perhaps fame? Perhaps something concrete? (Check for updates).
And now a brief educational interlude: Which previous phrase in italics could be a translation of some form of the Spanish verb "acostumbrarse"? The word has "costum" in it, but it's a trap! A "falso cognato," as they say, a phrase ironically composed of two "truo cognatos"! To everyone else taking Spanish midterms tomorrow, good luck!
Halloween is next Wednesday, so you have a little over a week to go incognito. Send in your submissions to bwog@columbia.edu. If you're not participating, know this: it is customary to wear a costume on Halloween even if you don't enter an online contest.
Reminder: Lolcolumbia submissions are due by midnight on the 4th.
And we're for serious giving away $20.
Bwog's gotten numerous entries so far, and one Loldavidjudd seems to be the frontrunner.
In our inaugural photo contest, Bwog got many good submissions (this editor's Gmail quota is now three percent more depleted), which the great hive-mind of Bwog editors narrowed down to five nocturnal masterworks. First "prize" for best submission goes to Janna Herman, B'10, for "CBGB Closing Night." Be sure to get your original photos in by next Sunday at midnight for round two - the theme is COMSUMPTION. After the jump, we round out the top five.
To send in your photo contest entries to bwog@columbia.edu.
Just letting you know.
We spend an inordinate amount of time cruising Facebook albums. We know that there are a few talented photographers out there. And we sure as hell know how much you procrastinate (Bwog wouldn't exist otherwise). Those realizations have combined to produce BWOG'S FIRST PHOTO CONTEST. Maybe it'll become a weekly thing.
So, here's the deal: being appallingly in debt makes it difficult to offer anything in the way of material incentives, but if your photo wins, we can hook you up with eternal fame and glory. The deadline is SUNDAY, APRIL 8th, at midnight.
And this week's theme is NIGHT. We'll post the winner on Monday. Go!
